1947-50: Responsible for programmes of symphonic music at the Radio Ljubljana
1950-58: Director of music programmes at the Radio Ljubljana
1958-67: Scientific collaborator at the Institute of Ethnomusicology
1967-82: Professor of composition at the Academy of Music in Ljubljana
Since 1977: Member of then Yugoslav, now Croatian Academy of Science and Art in Zagreb
Since 1985: Member of the Slovene Academy of Science and Art in Ljubljana
Since 1988: Honorary member of the Slovenian Philharmonic
Since 1993: Member of the European Academy of Science and Art in Salzburg (Austria)
